Went to the Golf course car park initially and then the demo was moved to the estuary which was the more sensible option. I had a chat with the JP rep with dread locks and managed to test out the nice shiny new 2005 kit. I was the first person to test out the new kit which I felt pretty lucky with. I went out on a 6.4 Neilpryde combat sail with a JP Xfactor. Was perfectly powered up for the first 15mins and had a few wipeouts on the sand banks which hurt. Was lucky not to smash the board to bits really although Ive managed to bruise both my elbows quite badly and a nice bruise and graze on my right hip. It was the first time ever I had sailed relatively new kit and it was amazing how light the whole feel was and was much more relaxing however I found the new boards really sensitive to any slight foot movement.
The wind soon picked up even further and I was really struggling with the 6.4 and was constantly spinning out. Came in for a smaller sail but they had all gone, only the big kit left so I lost my board I was using and had a good an hour and a half wait freezing my nads of.
Steve and Nick kindly gave me there gear they were testing out although I was still on the big sails, a 6.0 and 5.8 metre whilst everyone was nicely powered up on 5 metre sails. I was quite impressed with the Mistral Screamer and I sailed across to Aberdovey on this which was good fun and less crowded amongst the bigger waves in the Aberdovey channel. One guy attempting a jump on the Aberdovey side wiped out quite badly and his board separated from the rig. He was left with the rig whilst I mnaged to grab his brand spanking new demo board that was sailing out to sea pretty fast. He was quite releived as noone else was about.
I decided to head back and noticed that the wind had picked up even further and I was totally overpowered on the 5.8 gaastra sail and with the huge fin, I travelled upwind which was no problem until I wiped out on one of the sand banks which left me with a long walk back to the estuary. I decided to call it a day as I had a good 5 hours on the water although quite a lot of that was waiting around and being totally overpowered. It would of been the perfect session had I had the right size sail but the constant spinning out and fear of the sand banks brings the rating of the session down a bit. The rating falls even further due to a disaster when I was leaving, I was in the middle of strapping my boards back onto my roof rack when the wind caugit it and one of them flew of the car and landed on the wing miror of a new VW passat parked next to me so thats gonna cost me a bit. A real pain in the arse!!
